An ALDI special at $79 for an eBook reader, on August 11th 2011

The specifications of this eBook reader are quoted as:

• 7” TFT colour screen
• 800 x 480 screen resolution
• 2GB internal memory
• Supports up to 8 hours of reading
• Licenced Adobe Reader Software
• Rechargeable polymer battery
• Built-in Micro SD card reader (up to 16GB)
• Supports reading formats PDF, TXT, EPUB, CHM, RTF, HTML
• Support JPEG, BMP photos
• Supports MP3, WMA format music files

I’ve never used an eBook so this one, at a nice low price, may be an interesting starter for me.

This ALDI version appears to be the VIVID brand, a brand that ALDI have also previously used for Plasma TVs.

I have seen details on the popular Kindle eBook reader before, but the price, when looked at on the UK sites, has seemed a bit high, at about £111 or about A$174 at 4th August 2011.

I’ve just noticed the price from the USA, but then there would probably be a delivery charge ?  So, over A$100 for a 6″ display version.
