Most families in Australia will be entitled to a government payment for each child in their family.

Family Tax Benefit Part A is a benefit to help families with the cost of raising children.

As at November 2008, a family income of $42,559 or less will entitle you to the maximum rate of FTB Part A.

Above that rate and your benefit will reduce.

A family with one child may still get some benefit with an income under $100,801.

A family with six children may still get some benefit with an income under $$160,150.

Full rates can be seen at:  [Source URL]

Family Tax Benefit Part B is a benefit for single parents and families with one main income, including families where one parent chooses to stay at home, or just does a bit of part time work.

From 1 July 2008, FTB Part B will NOT be available when the primary earner earns over $150,000 per year

The secondary earner may still be eligible for FTB Part B with an income below:

$22,995 a year if your youngest child is under 5 years of age, OR

$17,904 a year if your youngest child is between 5 and 18 years of age.

These rates are current at November 2008, and can be checked at  [Source URL]
