My current Question is:
This was announced during the inquiries into the sex scandal at the Australian Defence Force Academy, and has had the effect of diverting a certain amount of attention from that event.
A suspicious person might think it was engineered for that reason.
It was obvious that David Johnston, the opposition defence spokesman, thought that, when he said: “It’s like muddying the waters. It’s an odd thing to have mentioned among all those inquiries.”
About 93% of all military jobs are already open to women, so this extra 7% isn’t a really big change, other than allowing the female personnel the opportunity to get up close and personal with killing on the front line.
My feelings are that women should not be on the front line, but then, I am from a different era, and maybe today’s women are more into violence than I care to think about.
It will be interesting to see how many women do actually take up these extra opportunities that may soon be on offer.
