Learner driver licence

You can apply for a Learner Licence, in the ACT, at age 15 years and 9 months

You must successfully complete a Road Ready program either in school or through a Road Ready Centre.
You must then pass a computer based Road Rules Knowledge Test.

Learner Licence Fees

The Learner licence & Learner pack cost $47.00.  The Learner licence is valid for 2 years.

Road Ready Course

The Road Ready Course can be taken at school, or at a Road Ready Centre. It costs $155 including GST), which includes 3 attempts at the Road Rules Knowledge Test – retesting, if you are unsuccessful, costs $32.50

Road Ready Course Fees

The cost of the Road Ready Course is $155, but this also includes 3 attempts at the Road Rules Knowledge Test, which are normally $32.50 each.

Practical Driving Test

The cost of the Practical Driving test in 2011 is: $86.80  This allows up to 5 minutes for the test.

Provisional driver licence

You can apply for the ACT provisional licence at age 17 years, and after you have held a learner licence for at least 6 months.

There are two ways to get a provisional licence.
1. The Competency Based Training and Assessment Scheme (CBT&A), which uses a logbook system through an Accredited Driving Instructor.
2. Take a practical driving test with an ACT Government Licence Examiner.

You are normally on a provisional licence for 3 years and must display “P” plates for this period.

Road Ready Plus Course

The Road Ready Plus course is optional for drivers who have held a provisional licence for at least 6 months. This course takes about 5 hours, but allows you to come off the P plates on completion, instead of waiting the full three years.

You must be at least 17 years of age and have held a learner licence for a minimum of 6 months before being able to obtain a provisional driver licence.

There are two methods you can use to get your provisional driver licence:

Road Ready Plus Course Fees

The Road ReadyPlus course costs $75 dollars in 2011.

Provisional Licence

The cost of a Provisional Licence is $93.10 in 2011.

Full Open Licence

A full licence is obtained after completion of all P Plate requirements

Open Licence Fee

The cost for a full Open licence is $153.00 for a  5 years licence, in 2011
