QLD Labor Stop Working, due to Re-Election commitments

Optus BroadbandKate Jones is standing down as the Queensland government Environment Minister, as she needs to spend her time working out how to get re-elected at the next Queensland election.

Kate Jones today (19th June 2011) announced at a press conference in Ashgrove that she was stepping down to focus on her re-election campaign

Is this the first of our paid government ministers to stop doing the job they get paid for, so they can spend the time working out how to get re-elected ?

If we knew that an election was imminent, then it may be understandable, as all politicians stop working while in the pre-election phase, but the next election could be as far away as 16th June 2012. ( A full year away).

Kate Jones is the current member for the inner Brisbane seat of Ashgrove, the seat that Campbell Newman is also standing for.

Campbell Newman resigned from his paid job as the Brisbane mayor, but we still pay Kate Jones while she tries to save her job in the future election.

She should concentrate on her job first, and face re-election based on her work and results.
