Queensland ending the solar bonus scheme (Feed-in Tariff) from June 6th 2011

Compare, Select & Save on private health cover with iSelectI saw some adverts today stating:

The Queensland Government will end the solar bonus scheme (Feed-in Tariff) from June 6th 2011.  Last Chance Order now….

This had me concerned, as I hadn’t heard anything about it…

However……  The advertisers do not always put the full information on full display.

Just a few extra letters in the headline would let people know the full story;

The Queensland Government will end the solar bonus scheme (Feed-in Tariff) from June 6th 2011 for systems over 5kW.

But then, the customers may not jump in quickly, if they know the full information.

Most people buy a 1.5kW system, some go for a 3kW system, and these people are not affected by this change.  It seems that only the people who are looking at a system costing over about $20,000 will be affected by this June 2011 change.

Just as a guide, the common pricing for installation of these systems was about:

  • 1.5 kW system $2,000
  • 3.0 kW system $8,500

However with the recent change in value of the RECS, (RECS are different to the feed in tariff*) the installation costs of these systems are now more like this:

  • 1.5 kW system $3,700
  • 3.0 kW system $10,600
  • 5.0 kW system $21,200
  • 10.0 kW system $42,000
  • 20.0 kW system $85,000
  • 30.0 kW system $99,000

These prices are an indication, taken as an average from a few suppliers, on May 19th 2011.

* Note:

RECS relate to discounts on the Installation Cost
Feed-In Tariff relates to reductions on future electric bills
