Benefits:
You can only spend what has been loaded onto the card. Therefore, you could top it up with $25 pocket money each week, and they have a card with access to that.
No credit checks.
No employer references.
No bank account required.
Ability to track your spending online.
Disadvantages:
It costs $9.95 to get the card.
You pay $1.00 every month in Service Fees.
You pay $4.95 for a card Renewal Fee, every three years.
You pay $5.00 to Cancel the card.
You pay $4.00 each month after your card expires until you cancel your card.
You pay $4.95 Card Replacement Fee if you lose your card.
It started off looking good, but now I am not so sure.
Total cost for the first three year period (assuming no lost cards, and renewed on time): $45.95
Total cost for each subsequent three year period (assuming no lost cards, and renewed on time): $40.95
About 30 cents per week. Maybe not too bad, as a learning tool, for getting used to handling a credit style card.
