In August 2024 the Australian median employee wages had increased by 7.4% since August 2023.
Median employee earnings in a main job was $1,396 per week, up $96 (7.4%) since August 2023.
Median hourly earnings in a main job was $40.00 per hour, that would be $1,520 per 38 hour week.
20% of employees considered their job to be casual.
18% of all employees do not have paid leave entitlements.
Casual employees receive an extra 25% above full time employee wage rates, to cover paid leave and sickness entitlements.
7.5% of all employees were independent contractors.
18% of employees didn’t have minimum guaranteed hours. (Presumably being casual employees).
In 2023-24, 75% of casual employees indicated that they currently preferred casual employment.
Of those casuals who preferred casual employment, the main reasons they preferred casual employment were:
- flexibility (53%)
- higher hourly pay rate (22%)
