On the 29th April 1770, 250 years ago today, Captain James Cook made first landfall in what is now called Botany Bay in Sydney.
Cook had travelled from Britain on the ship HMS Endeavour, having left Plymouth on the 26th August 1768.
This voyage took them around New Zealand before travelling to the East Coast of Australia.
HMS Endeavour was also known as HM Bark Endeavour, or HMB Endeavour.
