The decision of the meeting of the Australian Cabinet’s national security committee on 27th April 2021, was to suspend all direct passenger flights from India.
The reasoning is based on the spike in Covid-19 cases in India, and the numbers arriving in Australia from India.
The suspension is to remain in place until at least 15 May 2021, and will be reviewed later.
A statement by Amarjit Grewal, the president of the Indian Australian Association of South Australia, has said that the community would support the Australian government if it decided to close its borders with India, even though they are concerned for friends and relatives waiting to come to Australia.
