The 2021 Upper Hunter,NSW, by-election was held on 22 May 2021.

The by-election was triggered following the resignation of the Nationals MP, Michael Johnsen, on 31 March 2021.

The results for the 2021 New South Wales state by-election in the Upper Hunter district, after 84% of the electorate was counted, are:

  • 55.7% Nationals. 17,902 votes.
  • 44.3% Labor. 14,255 votes.

23rd May 2021: Labor candidate, Jeff Drayton, has conceded defeat in the Upper Hunter by-election.

Results for 2019 New South Wales state election: Upper Hunter.

  • 52.56% Nationals 19,341 votes.
  • 47.44% Labor 17,456 votes.

2019 New South Wales state election.

The 2019 New South Wales state election was held on Saturday 23 March 2019 to elect the 57th Parliament of New South Wales.

In 2019 the Liberal/National Coalition Government was re-elected to a third four-year term although with a reduced majority.
52.02% of the vote in 2019, compared to 54.32% on 2015.

2021 New South Wales state election.

The next New South Wales state election will be held on Saturday, 25 March 2023.

If the 2023 Election follows the same change as the 2021 Upper Hunter, that 52.02% of the NSW vote in 2019, could rise to over 55%.
