A common topic of Political conversation is the number of Prime Ministers who have NOT been voted into office by the General Public, but how often does it actually happen?
I read something recently where a member of the public has decided to vote ALP next time, due to the recent event where Scott Morrison took over the position of PM from Malcolm Turnbull.
This is a list of the recent events, over the last half century, where someone has been voted into the position of Prime Minister without the public being involved. There are Six, Three Liberal and Three ALP.
Scott Morrison (Liberal) Prime Minister of Australia 24 August 2018.
Scott Morrison became Prime Minister on 24 August 2018, after taking the leadership of the Liberal Party, when Malcolm Turnbull stood down.
At the time of writing there is no date set for the next Federal Election.

Malcolm Turnbull became Prime Minister on 15th September 2015, after challenging Tony Abbott for the leadership of the Liberal Party.
