Speeding Fines in Queensland December 2019.
It is an offence to exceed a speed limit in Australia.
Speeding is the cause of about 40% of road fatalities in Australia, and about 30% of all road accidents in Australia.
Each Australian State and Territory can impose different fines and penalties for any motoring offence, and this can include financial penalties and demerit points which can lead to loss of licence.
The following shows the basic speeding fines, for Private Motor Vehicles in Queensland, as at December 2019.
QLD Speeding Fines:.
- Less than 13km/h over the limit: $177 plus 1 point.
- At least 13km/h but not more than 20km/h over the limit: $266 plus 3 Points
- More than 20km/h but not more than 30km/h over the limit: $444 plus 4 Points
- More than 30km/h but not more than 40km/h over the limit: $622 plus 6 Points
- More than 40km/h over the limit: $1,245 plus 8 points and 6 month suspension
Double demerit points apply in Queensland to drivers and motorcycle riders who commit more than one of the relevant offences within a 12 month period: This will double the number of points for the 2nd offence.
The effect of this can be: Get two of the 4 point offences in one year, and it isn’t 8 points, but 4 for the first offence plus 8 for the second = 12 points, which mean license cancelled.
