ART replaced the AAT.
On 14 October 2024, the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) replaced the former Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT).
The new tribunal is a unified and fit-for-purpose federal administrative body which reviews decisions made under a range of Commonwealth Acts and instruments, including veterans’ entitlements.
If you submitted your application for review with the AAT on or before 13 October 2024, you do not need to do anything as your case was automatically transferred to the new Tribunal.
If you have received a migration decision you don’t agree with, the ART might be able to help you with a review of your case.
The Tribunal can review some, but not all, decisions about visas made by the Department of Home Affairs, the Minister for Home Affairs or the Minister for Immigration.
Cases include:
- A decision was made to refuse or cancel different types of migration visas
- A decision was made to refuse or cancel a protection visa.
- A decision was made to refuse or cancel a visa on character-related reasons.
- A decision was made to refuse an application for Australian citizenship or cancel existing Australian citizenship.
- A decision was made to refuse a nomination of an occupation, activity or position.
- A decision was made to bar, refuse to approve or cancel the approval of a sponsor.
