ATO is Targeting Landlords in 2024.
The Australian Tax Office is expanding its data matching program, and cracking down on the tax affairs of landlords.
Property management companies can now be required to transfer their records, for individual rental property owners, for each tax year period from 2018–19.
This data comparison can be used to find those who have been falsely claiming different rental deductions, or not declaring income.
This could trigger penalties and other compliance activities, on those landlords that are not doing the right things.
