The body of Nathan Turner was immediately tested and found to have COVID-19. He was not tested for Covid-19 before his death, and a second test, during postmortem, came back negative. 1. Victoria’s Chief Health Officer, Brett Sutton, has said that “between a couple of hundred and a thousand” overseas travellers were arriving at Melbourne Airport each day. And that “Wherever Australian, Victorian citizens and permanent residents are coming from, there’s greater coronavirus activity and so more of those who go into quarantine are becoming positive.”

These arrivals were being housed in Hotels for their 14 days of quarantine.

There was an issue with the way that hotel quarantine was been handled in Victoria, with private contractors handling the security, unlike the other states which used the Police and the Military.

An outbreak did occur at one of the hotels used for quarantine, although the specifics appear unclear. Relationships between these private contractor guards, and the arrivals supposed to be in quarantine, has been mentioned, as has the poor social distancing between the guards themselves.

      18th June 2020
Fifteen of the 21 cases reported on Wednesday were returned overseas travellers already in hotel quarantine.”

      19th June 2020
Victorian health authorities believe physical-distancing breaches by some government-contracted security guards at a Melbourne hotel used to quarantine returned travellers may have contributed to an outbreak that has now grown to seven cases at that hotel.”

In the month since the 18th June there have been 15 COVID-19 deaths in Australia, with all being in Victoria.

In the month prior to the 18th June, (19th May to 18th June) there were 3 COVID-19 deaths in Australia, with one being in Victoria.

  16. At 23rd April 2020, the COVID-19 death rate in Australia is 3 deaths per million population.

However, the rate for those aged 70 or more, is 26 deaths per million population.
No Australian, under 58 years of age, has been reported as a death from COVID-19.

These rates would be much lower if the Cruise deaths had not been included. TWO out of every FIVE deaths were passengers or crew from the Cruise ships.
