Apply for an Extension to your Visa First Entry Date.
Most Visa grants include a specific date by which you MUST enter Australia.
With COVID-19 causing havoc with travel plans, and many people being unable to get flights into Australia, the Immigration department have relaxed some rules.
One of these allows for people to apply for an extension to the first entry date, based on a reasonable reason for delay.
This is available to those with a Permanent or Provisional visa, and who cannot travel to Australia before the specified first entry arrival date (initial arrival date) condition advised in the visa grant letter.
A Provisional visa is a Temporary visa that leads to a Permanent visa, such as a subclass 309 visa. This does NOT include a subclass 300 visa holder.
Use this “Travel facilitation letter request form” to request an extension:

Note: This only extends the First Entry Date, it does not extend the actual visa expiry date, which would normally be valid for 5 years from grant date.
Update: The First Entry Date is often extended by 12 months from the time you apply for the extension.
