Penalties to be Applied to Australians downloading movies illegally from the Internet.

News reports are showing the severity of penalties for illegal downloads in the future.

GAME of Thrones fans illegally streaming their favourite fantasy drama could face up to ten years in prison under new laws.

That is one headline at www.thesun.co.uk. Under new powers contained in the Digital Economy Act, which passed through Parliament earlier this year, the penalty for piracy will increase five fold from a maximum of two years to ten in prison.
The act, warns that those downloading or making films or matches available online – by using torrents – will be committing a criminal offence.

IF YOU live in Brisbane, Perth, Melbourne or Sydney, your IP-addresses might have been flagged as one of the 1.77 million people who downloaded Game of Thrones.

HBO’s anti-piracy partner IP Echelon has begun sending warnings to those found torrenting Game of Thrones.
The letters are sent to ISPs and include the IP-addresses of the alleged downloaders, with the anti-piracy group asking they be passed onto infringers to prevent further downloads. More at www.news.com.au
