Fines and Deportation for bringing Food into Australia.

You are allowed to bring some types of food into Australia, BUT, you MUST declare it.

The penalty for failing to declare food or other biosecurity risk items, when entering Australia, can be fines of up to $5,500 and the cancellation of the entry visa.

This penalty has recently been increased from a fine of $2,664 and visa cancellation.

Recent cases have included:

Perth Airport:
A 20 year old Spanish man did not declare 275 grams of pancetta, 665g of pork meat and 300g of goat cheese. He was fined $3,300 with visa cancellation, not permitted to enter Australia and given a 3 year entry ban.

Perth Airport:
A passenger did not declare 3.1 kgs of duck, 1.9 kgs of beef and 900 grams of chicken.
The passenger was fined $2,664 with visa cancellation, not permitted to enter Australia and given a 3 year entry ban.

Darwin Airport:
An Australian passenger did not declare a ham croissant and two McMuffins.
The passenger was fined $2,664.

If you have food, DECLARE IT.

If it is not allowed it will be thrown away.

If it is allowed, you can keep it.

You get fined for not declaring it.
