Brisbane ranked as Second Cheapest City.

Brisbane has been ranked as the second most cost-effective city in the world to live in, beaten only by Seoul in South Korea.

Transport costs in Brisbane, at 50 cents per trip, have helped in reducing costs in Brisbane, and Queensland in general.

Brisbane’s cheap public transport one way fare (50 cents) was the second lowest of all cities on the index, beaten only by Mexico City with its equivalent to 46 cents per trip.

Other Australian cities were much higher on average, with Sydney being $5 and Melbourne even higher at $5.30.

Luxembourg came 3rd, helped by its free public transport access since 2020.

The 2024 “Compare the Market Cost of Living Index” covered 42 capital cities across 37 countries.
