What is the Bulk Water cost for?.
The bulk water charge is to eventually cover the cost of providing bulk water supplies from Seqwater to the various council areas in Queensland.
Each council then adds on its own cost of local distribution.
According to the Queensland Competition Authority, SEQWater is selling bulk water at a loss, which is being funded by debt.
Even during the 10-year price increase path to 2017-2018, the bulk water prices are not expected to recover the costs of bulk water supply.
