How high is the Covid-19 risk factor Vaccinated or not?
The figures below show that the risk factor of catching Covid-19 is almost 10 times higher for the not fully vaccinated people, when compared to the fully vaccinated.
It also shows that risk factor of dying with Covid-19 is 14 times higher for the not fully vaccinated people, when compared to the fully vaccinated.
This is however based on just one weeks results in New South Wales, but does give a reasonable indication.
Case Risk of COVID-19.
In the week-ended 2nd October 2021, there were 5,871 locally acquired cases reported, and 71 deaths in people diagnosed with COVID.
During that week 10.8% of locally acquired cases came from the around 52.6% of the NSW population aged 16 and over who had been fully vaccinated.
That leaves 89.2% of cases from the 47.4% of those not fully vaccinated.

From the estimated 6.45 million people age over 16 in NSW:
5,871 contracted COVID-19 in that week.
- 634 (10.8%) were from the 3,401,390 (52.6%) fully vaccinated.
- 5,237 (89.2%) were from the 3,065,130 (47.4%) not fully vaccinated.
This vaccination figure is based on the rate at 27 September 2021. 5 days before the report end date.
That works out at:
- 186 cases per million population of fully vaccinated people
- 1,709 cases per million of the un-vaccinated population.
This shows that the risk factor of catching Covid-19, in that week, was 9.2 times higher for the not fully vaccinated people, when compared to the fully vaccinated.
Fatality Risk of COVID-19.
With the 10 deaths of fully vaccinated people in NSW, in the 7 days ended 19th October 2021, using the higher vaccinated percentages (84% fully vaccinated) would give us these figures:
From about the 6.45 million people age over 16 in NSW:
48 died with COVID-19 in the 7 days ended 19th October 2021.
- 10 (21%) were from the 5,095,618 (78.8%) fully vaccinated.
- 38 (79%) were from the 1,370,902 (21.2%) not fully vaccinated.
This vaccination figure is based on the rate at 14 October 2021. 5 days before the report end date.
That works out at:
- 2 deaths per million population of fully vaccinated people.
- 28 deaths per million of the un-vaccinated population.
This shows that the risk factor of dying with Covid-19, in that week, was 18 times higher for the not fully vaccinated people, when compared to the fully vaccinated.
