In Queensland, practical driving tests will be temporarily suspended from Saturday, 28 March 2020 for a period of 3 months, due to COVID-19. (qld.gov.au)
However driving instructors are still allowed to work, as an essential service.
Also, according to the RACQ, The Department of Transport and Mains Road (TMR) has given the go-ahead for learner drivers to continue accruing hours during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
However, and this is important, do not drive too far from home!!
The police are authorised to fine people for travel that is considered not necessary.
I saw one quote saying “Stay inside your own village“. You do not need to drive to an hour away to the beach just for a driving lesson.
In Victoria, the Police have stated that driving lessons are not lawful unless it is for essential travel.
ie: Learn to drive while going to the shops for your essential groceries, etc.
A $1,642 fine was issued to a learner driver in Victoria and the police stated.. “This isn’t driving around the corner, it was driving 40 minutes from Hampton down to the Peninsula Link.
That’s not exempt and it’s not lawful to occur.”
