Flu and Covid Deaths January to June

Between January to June 2020, there were just 36 deaths from the flu, from 21,000 diagnosed with the flu.

There was also 104 from the 7,836 reported COVID-19 coronavirus cases. A total of 140 deaths, from 28,836 combined infections, for the first six months of 2020.

For the same period last year, between January and June 2019, there were 430 deaths from the flu, from over 132,000 people that were diagnosed with the flu.

Fewer deaths due to Social distancing?

Professor Barr, deputy director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Influenza,
stated that the “main reasons are due to social distancing, as influenza is spread just like COVID-19”
