Kelly Slater cannot Enter Australia unless Vaccinated?.
American surfing legend Kelly Slater (11-time world champion) has been told he will not be allowed in Australia unless he is vaccinated against COVID-19.
Slater has made various comments about the Australian attitude to unvaccinated people entering Australia.
He has suggested that the term “Stockholm syndrome” should be renamed to “Melbourne/Australia syndrome”.
He also asked why vaccinated people are concerned about other people’s vaccination status, with his thoughts being:
- “Unless, of course, it doesn’t protect you?
- Or you’re scared you’ll catch it?
- Or upset you had to take the risk of vaccination yourself?”
My response to those points:
1: We all know that vaccinations are only around 90% effective. So of course, some people, especially those with other illnesses, are more vulnerable to death or serious illness. I assume he doesn’t know enough about the vaccines, rather than not caring about those people.
2: Some people are scared of catching it, and passing it on to a vulnerable person who might die from it. There have been 406 reported Covid-19 linked deaths in Australia, during the last 7 days.
3: Very few people are upset about doing their bit to try to reduce the effects of this virus. Some are selfish about thinking only of themselves, but most are not.
He has also mentioned the Australians “brainwashed hatred in people’s hearts regardless of vax status”.
“Brainwashed Hatred”? Where did that come from?
Federal sports minister Richard Colbeck has said “It doesn’t matter whether you’re a surfer, or a tennis player, a tourist or anyone else, those are the rules. They apply to everyone.”
He thinks it is “Brainwashed Hatred” to obey the Immigration rules? To obey the law?
