An Essential Research poll, commissioned for SBS News, showed that 75% of respondents felt that the most important factor for new migrants was:

- That New Migrants have skills and qualifications that will allow them to find a job.
The 2nd and 3rd most important qualities were:

- Understanding Australian Cultural Values and being able to speak good English. 65% and 51% respectively.
The least important factors were Nationality and Religion.
There were 1,079 people surveyed in the poll.
