Thanksgiving in Australia.
Norfolk Island is the only part of Australia that officially celebrates Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving in Norfolk Island in 2023 is on Wednesday 29 November 2023.
Why does Norfolk Island celebrate Thanksgiving?
American whaling ships made frequent visits to Norfolk Island, and as well as bringing many American recipes, they also brought the idea of Thanksgiving. This was in the mid 1800s.
The day is celebrated, on the last Wednesday in November, by attending Church services and enjoying a traditional lunch with family and friends.
The main feast is usually made from roast pork, chicken and bananas.
