Overseas Arrivals into Australia June 2020 and 2019

In June 2020 it is estimated that there were 25,800 overseas arrivals into Australia, of which 14,100 were by Australian citizens.  This means that 11,700 arrivals were from foreign nationals, holders of various visas, including Permanent Resident Visas.

In comparison to the year before, there were 1,562,990 overseas arrivals into Australia.

The main ten countries accounted for 8,110 of the arrivals in June 2020, while the same countries totalled 455,610 in June 2019.  That works out at less than 18 arrivals in June 2020, compared to every 1,000 arrivals in June 2019.

  • 2,740 from New Zealand, compared to 144,970 in June 2019. (19 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 1,370 from India, compared to 53,800 in June 2019. (25 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 1,190 from China, compared to 107,030 in June 2019 (11 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 800 from UK, compared to 50,640 in June 2019 (16 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 460 from USA, compared to 62,000 in June 2019 (7 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 430 from Pakistan, compared to 4,300 in June 2019 (100 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 330 from South Africa, compared to 5,870 in June 2019 (56 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 290 from Philippines, compared to 20,480 in June 2019 (14 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 250 from Afghanistan, compared to 1,090 in June 2019 (229 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).
  • 250 from Nepal, compared to 5,430 in June 2019 (46 in June 2020 for every 1,000 in June 2019).

The visa grouping for the 11,700 non-Australian Citizen arrivals included:

  • In June 2020, there were 1,540 arrivals on Permanent Family Visas (13.2% of non-citizens) compared to 23,020 in June 2019. (67 for every 1,000 in June 2019)
  • In June 2020, there were 1,780 arrivals on Permanent Other Visas (15.2% of non-citizens) compared to 52,340 in June 2019. (34 for every 1,000 in June 2019)
  • In June 2020, there were 2,190 arrivals on Permanent Skilled Visas (18.7% of non-citizens) compared to 40,210 in June 2019. (54 for every 1,000 in June 2019)
  • In June 2020, there were 2,070 arrivals on Temporary Other Visas (17.7% of non-citizens) compared to 29,360 in June 2019. (71 for every 1,000 in June 2019)
  • In June 2020, there were 190 arrivals on Temporary Skilled Visas (1.6% of non-citizens) compared to 19,750 in June 2019. (10 for every 1,000 in June 2019)
  • In June 2020, there were 60 arrivals on Temporary Student Visas (0.5% of non-citizens) compared to 47,720 in June 2019. (1 for every 1,000 in June 2019)
  • In June 2020, there were 1,160 arrivals on Temporary Visitor Visas (9.9% of non-citizens) compared to 449,150 in June 2019. (3 for every 1,000 in June 2019)
  • In June 2020, there were 40 arrivals on Temporary Work Visas (0.3% of non-citizens) compared to 19,000 in June 2019. (2 for every 1,000 in June 2019)

That gives a total of 9,030 in June 2020, leaving 2,670 on other visas.
In June 2019, the above groups totalled 680,550.

State of Entry into Australia.

  • 11,670 (45.3%) entered Australia through NSW.
  • 6,360 (24.7%) entered Australia through Victoria.
  • 4,500 (17.5%) entered Australia through Queensland.
  • 1,760 (6.8%) entered Australia through WA.
  • 890 (3.5%) entered Australia through NT.
  • 300 (1.2%)entered Australia through ACT.
  • 290 (1.1%) entered Australia through SA.
  • 0 (0%) entered Australia through Tasmania.
