Queensland Registered Relationship – Civil Partnership

A Civil partnership now includes the formerly named registered relationship..

A civil partnership is a legally recognised committed relationship, under the Civil Partnerships Act 2011, that may be entered into by two eligible adults, regardless of their sex.

A civil partnership is NOT a marriage.
Marriage is governed by the Marriage Act 1961 (Cth).

A Queensland civil partnership may not necessarily be recognised in other Australian jurisdictions.

A civil partnership declaration ceremony is part of registering your relationship as a civil partnership.

You must provide notice of your intention to your choice of civil partnership notary (and BDM) at least 10 days before the event.

A declaration ceremony cannot be performed earlier than 10 days or later than 12 months after you lodge the notice of intention
