Subclass 189 Visa Grant and Refusal rate

Grant and Refusal rate for the subclass 189 visa.

The refusal rate for the subclass 189 visa would be expected to be very low, as most applications would have been vetted by the skill assessment, and expression of interest stages, before the actual application is made. However, a small number are still rejected even in the final stage.

Figures from a FOI request showed that in 2016/17, there were 21,888 Subclass 189 Points Tested visas granted during the year, with only 527 refusals.  That showed 2.35% of those processed were rejected.

For the first 10 months of 2017/18 the numbers were 15,402 granted and 320 refused. That showed 2.04% of those processed were rejected.

On an average monthly basis this works out at:

2016/17
1,827 grants per month
44 refusals per month

2017/18 (First 10 months)
1,540 grants per month
32 refusals per month
