I got my visa (subclass 500) my sister lives in australia suddenly she become serious sick kind of heart failure . 5days she stay in life support. Now she is so sick for that i want to travel exemption. In my situaition what the doccount needs for approval.

    1. I would suggest any doctors letters etc.

There are many refusals for such requests, even for travel between States in Australia.

      An exemption is not guaranteed.

      This is an example:

… has terminal cancer and is at home in Brisbane, Queensland, while his four children are in Sydney.
Queensland authorities have refused repeated pleas to grant an exemption to tough Covid-19 travel restrictions.

  4. Hi! I am planning to get my wife as subsequent entrant under subclass 500. I would like to know whether I have to upgrade my OSHC as double (at the moment i have single cover) or I could apply for a individual cover OSHC for herself while applying for visa?

    1. With a partner visa you are allowed to enter Australia, with compulsory hotel quarantine at your expense.

Getting a flight is actually the hard part, with so few flights being permitted.

  8. My husband is in Brisbane, Australia from 2015. Still he is going on student visa but now he is on bridging visa A because of visa was expired at 17 July 2020. He applied new extension of visa from 27 December 2019 with my subsequent entrance 500 but still we are not receive any response. We were married at 2018. I am in India. if you have any information regarding that so please answer to me am very tensed.

    1. Your husband needs to contact immigration to find out why his subclass 500 visa was not renewed. But went on to a bridging visa instead.

I assume he chose to stay in Australia, rather than return home when the virus became a major problem.

Due to COVID-19, few overseas visas are being granted, and that would logically include your own SE 500.

  10. I have applied subsequent 500 student dependent visa in july 2020 but there is no active response for couple insurance of further assessment is there any idea when it would be normal and have a great options to meet better half .

    1. From what I have seen, it will depend on when the risk of COVID-19 being brought into Australia, by overseas arrivals, reduces.

  12. Just curious, Is it quicker to cancel my approved student visa and re-apply with my partner included, or keep waiting for the subsequent visa? I’m offshore. Im just concerned that it may effect the outcome of the visa?
    Thank you.

    1. At the moment I doubt it would make any difference. Many offshore grants are on hold until they decide that the COVID situation is such that they can begin to issue the grants.

However it might be best to check that with a migration agent.

Your application might be grant ready, but held back due to COVID. It is a pity that applicants are not kept full informed of an application progress.

  16. Hi just want to check what are the requirements of applying for a subsequent visa under subclass 500(student visa) as I am planninf to bring my wife once covid situation is at ease.

    1. Hopefully someone that has completed such an application can give you a decent idea of the full requirements.

But the main requirement would be sufficient proof of relationship and marriage.

    1. No one knows yet. Things are getting worse in some areas of Australia.

Some partner visas are still being issued.

Some exemptions to enter are still being granted.

  19. Hay admin I applied my subsequent subclass 500 visa on 23rd may 2019 from Australia.still I didn’t get response .my husband is in Melbourne .I m so much frustrating nd I m pregnant also. Please help me where I contact

    1. Due to the COVID-19 situation, many visas are on hold. The best you can do is apply for an exemption to the travel ban, and see if they can do anything for you.
      https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/travel-restrictions-0

The Commissioner of the Australian Border Force (ABF) may consider an additional exemption in relation to the travel restrictions currently in place for:
      * case-by-case exceptions for humanitarian or compassionate reasons.

    2. Hi loveprey there us one of my friend in brisbane whi have applied this subsequent visa in may 2019 and their visa has granted three dats before. Hope you will get your visa soon.

      1. Hi, I applied for my wife’s VISA (subsequent entrant) on Jan-29, 2020. It has still not moved to initial assessment stage. Could you please provide any information on processing time? Thanks

        1. During the COVID situation it is not possible to be sure about any times. Some visa groups are getting very few grants, until travel restrictions are over.

  21. i am from bangladesh.i have been applied visa for (student subclass 500 subsequent entrance )last 26.12.2019 but still now visa status show initial assessment in the mean time my husband studying in sydney. i applied my visa in New Delhi Australian embassy’s through the online.can anyone suggest me in this situation what i will do.i am getting so upset!

    1. I have heard that the New Delhi embassy is not processing most visas due to the Coronavirus situation. Many embassies around the world are the same.

Overall, very few offshore visas are being issued, while the travel restrictions are in place.

  23. I’ve processed my subsequent entrant visa(500) on 5th November,2019. And it has been shown “Further assessment” since 11th dec,2019. But still didn’t get any response. Can you please tell me what should I do? It’s so frustrating. My husband is in Sydney,Australia since july intake,2019.

    1. The restrictions for COVID-19 will be affecting many visa applications, yours might be one that is affected also.

It seem to be a case of either waiting, or make an enquiry and ask for an exception.

  26. Hi Admin,
I applied for 500 subsequent visa, and I am in Australia right now. My status is still received! Do you think being on shore makes any difference? should I email them and mention this? I think Covid19 should not affect my visa. But I don’t know what their email is.

  30. Hi I applied for my wife visa on 1 may 2019 Still the status shows received its a more than year now and i have only 8 month visa left . do you have any idea when they can grant visa.

    1. Not at the moment. Some Student Visa holders are being advised to returned to their home countries. I feel it is unlikely they will be granting more until something changes with the current COVID-19 situation.

      1. Hi Admin, hope you are keeping safe. I am on Student Visa for my PhD in Sydney since Jan 22nd, 2020. I applied for my wife’s VISA (subsequent entrant) on January 29th, 2020 online. The status still shows ‘Received’. She is still in India and we have been advised to plan our first kid asap otherwise it would be difficult if we delay it. She is still in India and quite stressed due to ongoing uncertainty I wrote to Australian embassy in New Delhi in June but they told me that VISA processing is on hold. Could you please tell me how much more time will it take for the VISA outcome?
        Thanks

        1. The answer depends on how long the COVID-19 coronavirus affects the finalisation of visa processing. With the situation getting worse, I don’t think anyone can give an honest answer to your question.

Australia is doing its best to keep people from entering the country at the moment.

    1. Nothing is sure at the moment, with the COVID-19 situation.

Restrictions on travel is causing some visa applications to be held back until travel to Australia will be allowed again.

  34. I applied my wife visa 29March 2019 but still waiting.. It’s already more than 1 years anybody have information about processing time..

    1. Current processing may be delayed due to the COVID-19 situation.

Have you previously submitted any request to ask why the delay?

      1. I talked with lawyer he said go through global feedback through immigration site. So I send them email through global feedback.
Than I receive answer email From department They receive my email but not any response for visa .

        1. Your answer was probably an auto reply. Depending on what was asked, will result in whatever action they deem required, if any.

      2. Yes I asked why they take for Long time processing time but I haven’t receive any response yet.
        Visa processing time 10-12 months
But it’s already 14 months now any response.
This is frustrating my wife & my baby still waiting for visa.
Don’t know how long not time frame for visa processing…..

        1. You need to word your request very carefully, to ensure they have something specific to answer.

You are in the 10% that are over 12 months.

    2. I applied on 14 july,2019 . subsequent entrant visa(Subclass 500) for my wife. i have filled the enquiry form and they replied due to high application numbers its taking longer than usual and trying to process ASAP. which is irrelevant. This visa scheme is one of the worst.
