In 2019-20 the average processing time for a subclass 820 visa was 17 months. In 2018-19 it was 16.3 months.
These are the official times quoted by Australian Immigration, for the visas finalised in each month.

- Jun 2020: 19-24 = 75% took up to 19 months. 10% took over 24 months.

- Dec 2019: 22-27 = 75% took up to 22 months. 10% took over 27 months.
They show the maximum time that it took for the fastest 75%, and the minimum time it took for the slowest 10%, of visas finalised in that month.

Final 2019-20 subclass 820 visa statistics
In 2019-20 a total of 26,320 subclass 820 visas were granted, with half taking under 17 months, and half taking over 17 months, to be finalised.

The processing times for these visas would normally be reported as 21-27, with 75% being under 21 months, and 90% being under 27 months, even though half took under 17 months. (In 2018-19, half took under 16.3 months.)
The actual times, broken down further are:
- 25% took under 14 months.
- 25% took between 14 and 17 months.
- 25% took between 17 and 21 months.
- 15% took between 21 and 27 months.
- 10% took over 27 months.
