The Last Tasmania Tiger.
The last known Tasmanian Tiger, or Thylacine, died in September 1936 at the Beaumaris Zoo in Hobart.
A year later, in November 1937, the Beaumaris Zoo closed down, due to falling attendances during the worsening economic times.
The zoo started in 1895 as a private collection of birds and animals, owned by Mary Grant Roberts of Beaumaris House, Hobart.
In 1923, two years after Mary Grant Roberts died, and the collection was given to Hobart City Council, the zoo was moved to a new location.
